TMJ refers to temporomandibular joint. We now call it TMD, which means temporomandibular dysfunction. A lot of patients have pain in their jaw, from a dental standpoint. I find that a lot of the times it's because your teeth don't fit together. If there's a high spot, or what I call premature contact, when you close your teeth, just a simple adjustment in the bite can solve a lot of TMJ problems. We do analyze everybody when they come into the office to make sure the bite is even, and especially if it's a new restoration. We want to make sure everything's fitting together properly. A lot of patients will wear what we call a occlusal guard or a night guard. It's an appliance that goes over the teeth so when they do close at night, or grind, or clench, that they're ... Those forces go into the guard rather than their own teeth. It's a very calm procedure to be wearing a occlusal guard or night guard.

Relax Again With Our Safe & Effective Treatment For TMJ Pain
Your temporomandibular joints (TMJ) on either side of your head are complex joints that allow your jaw to open and close. They make it possible to talk, laugh, chew, yawn, and swallow. But when these joints become irritated and inflamed, any of these actions can cause you significant pain.
Our custom-fit night guards will reduce or eliminate your pain so you can feel better and enjoy life more fully. A night guard fits comfortably in your mouth while you sleep. It will exert gentle pressure on your lower jaw, pushing it forward and easing the stress on your TMJ.
As a result, your TMJ will relax, your jaw will stop hurting when you open and close your mouth, and you may even have fewer and less intense headaches.
Plus, your night guard will eliminate teeth grinding – which many of us do in our sleep without even knowing it. Teeth grinding can cause your tooth enamel to wear prematurely, allowing decay and infection to take hold. Stopping teeth grinding now will help prevent not only diseased teeth but also worn and unsightly teeth that could require restoration later.
