There are some cases where people’s teeth are so worn down we have to, what's called, open their vertical dimension. Which means we have to make the teeth a little bit bigger. Or teeth are broken down to the point where they have to be restored with full coverage or crowns. Part of full mouth reconstruction is restoring their bite so that their teeth fit together and they don't have any jaw pain or what we call temporomandibular joint pain. That's our goal is to have them completely comfortable once their mouth is restored.
Often that requires full mouth reconstruction which means it can be as many as 28 teeth. We don't typically try to do that in one visit. It's in multiple visits, but it's very important to plan ahead of time so we know where we're going. I've had some patients that have had chronic jaw pain for years. From a dental standpoint, I know it's because their teeth don't fit together. We've restored their occlusion of their bite, and they come back and they say, “Wow. I've been pain free. This is the first time in years.” That's very gratifying.
A full-mouth restoration will:
- Relieve chronic pain caused by dental damage
- Replace missing teeth
- Restore your oral function
- Give you a younger-looking smile
- Repair damaged teeth and gums
- Improve your oral health and your overall health
The first step in a full dental restoration is a consultation with one of our dentists. To schedule one, call (651) 413-9860.
Select Dental Implants or Other Options for Your Full-Mouth Rehabilitation
Dental implants are a great choice for a full-mouth rehabilitation because they can be used with so many different kinds of dental restorations. You can:
- Replace a single tooth with an implant and a dental crown
- Replace several teeth with implants and a dental bridge
- Replace many teeth, even an entire mouthful, with dental implant dentures
If you need to remove damaged teeth to make room for your replacement teeth, we can provide a gentle tooth extraction. If dental implants aren’t for you, your other options include a traditional dental bridge and traditional dentures, full or partial.
All of the choices can seem a little overwhelming, but our dentists will explain your options and answer any questions you have. Together, you’ll create a personalized treatment plan for your full-mouth restoration.
Relax During Your Restorative Dental Procedures
Restorative dentistry procedures can often be longer and more involved than many other dental treatments. Our massage chairs will help you remain relaxed. Our caring staff can also offer you a cozy blanket and headphones for listening to music. In addition, we offer two kinds of dental sedation, one of which will be right for you:
- Inhaled sedation, or “laughing gas,” to keep you gently relaxed
- Oral conscious sedation, a safe prescription medication that makes you even more relaxed
