Your Stillwater Dentist Offers Endodontic Care & More
I was really drawn to it. I didn't have any dental members in the family, but it seems to be a good blend between science, art, being able to work with people on a daily basis, and copying some issues people have and helping them out. I grew up in Wisconsin. I went to St. John's University. I played football and track and field there, and then went to the University of Minnesota for Dentistry. After that I did a GPR on Salt Lake City, a VA up there. I got a lot more experience in the advanced aspects of dentistry, that being cosmetics, sedation, implant dentistry.
From there I went and worked in Colorado for about five years. I worked in Vail, Colorado and had a good experience with more cosmetics there. I learned a lot, but decided to find the time to come home to the Midwest. I'm happy to be here. The most rewarding aspect of dentistry for me is just when you get to help another person in need. That can come from many different aspects. If someone's in pain, you can alleviate that for them. If they've got a big wedding coming up, you get to improve their smile a little bit. Really, when people just walk through the door feeling happy with their appointment.
A lot of people come in afraid of the dentist, rightfully so. It's not anybody's favorite place, but if you can change somebody's mind on that, and they leave having a positive experience, and even fun, that's really the most rewarding part for me.
A native of Eau Claire, WI, Dr. Matt Hawn was a standout on athletic playing fields in both high school and college before becoming a standout at the Stillwater, MN dental practice of Dr. Ned W. Windmiller.
He played three sports in high school, then continued with two of them, football and track & field, while enrolled at Saint John’s University. Like their father before them, both he and his brother played for legendary football coach John Gagliardi. Under Gagliardi, the Saint John’s team won the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2003. Dr. Hawn was honored to be an MIAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year at Saint John’s.
After graduating from Saint John’s, Dr. Hawn earned his DDS from the University of Minnesota. He then spent four years in private dental practice in Vail, CO and Denver.
